Jesse is beginning to hate winter. So. MUCH. After Zoom, all that time alone in that cave as his captive, being mocked and tortured, she just doesn’t like the cold. She doesn’t like BEING cold. Not like this. Not indoors, without even playing in the snow as an excuse. It brings up too many horrible memories. And it makes her shoulder ache a little.
So, wearing an over-sized hoodie of Cisco’s over a long-sleeved shirt and pajama pants that are also Cisco’s, she pads over to his bed, rubbing absently at the scars on her collar bone, memories of blue lightning and broken bones unpleasantly sharp in her mind. Burrowing under the ridiculous amount of blankets, she snuggles up tightly against her boyfriend’s side.
Cisco doesn't handle cold much better than Jesse-- she just has a bit of a better reason for it beyond his own personal Do Not Want of it all. Being cold is just...not okay. However, there's not much more of a perfect time for curling up in bed and watching movies, which is the only thing he had planned for the day.
He looks up when Jesse wanders into the bedroom, a curious look painting across his face at the almost distant look on hers. That's only there for a second, though, before she's crawling under the blankets with him, curling into his side. He slides his arm around her shoulders easily, smiling a little. "Hey," he says softly, "you okay?"
His arm slides around her shoulders and she almost relaxes, a little of the tension slipping out of her at the warmth of him, the press of him against her. She tucks her head into the crook of his neck and just tries to breathe, breathes him in and tries to banish the memories that are haunting her. She doesn’t know how to answer his question. Doesn’t know if she’s okay or not. So she bites her lip and shrugs a little.
“Not sure,” she says finally, voice muffled against him. “Bad memories. The cold always brings them up.” But she feels safe with him. Feels warm and protected. So she might not be okay, but she’s getting closer to it, here with him.
She settles against him and it's a familiar thing now, the two of them like this. It's comfortable and he'll never mind her curling up with him like this. He wraps his fingers of his free hand around hers and brings her hand up to press a kiss across her fingers.
"It's okay," he keeps his voice soft and runs his hand across her back gently, partially to help soothe her, and partially to help ease some heat back into her. "you're safe now."
He presses a kiss across her fingers and she huffs a soft laugh, a warmth having nothing to do with body heat and everything to do with that little gesture filling her chest. Even with memories of Zoom sharp in her mind he still takes her breath away. He always makes her feel wanted, and makes her feel loved. Cared for.
Safe.
She nods against him, focusing on the way his hand runs across her back, the warmth of his palm against her, the sound of him breathing. “I always am, with you.” It’s true. She’s always felt safe with him. From the moment they’d met, when he’d come to another EARTH to rescue her, to rescue someone he’d never even met.
Now it's Cisco's turn to feel something bright and warm settle in his chest. She feels safe. With him. He loves the way that sounds, the way it makes him feel to hear it. He'd never thought of himself as anyone's safe place, but it's kind of nice.
"Good," he presses a kiss to her temple. "I'm glad."
The press of his lips to her temple makes her relax a little bit more, and she lets out a soft sigh. She’s feeling warmer, now, and most of it – all of it – is because of Cisco. The memories are still there, the phantom ache in her collarbone where Zoom had driven his talons into her shoulder is still there, but they’re both starting to ease their hold on her, the longer she lays there curled up against him.
She seems to be relaxing more now, which Cisco is thankful for. He knows how rough it can be to get stuck in memories he'd rather forget altogether. He still has nightmares about Thawne shoving his hand through his chest from time to time. And the same way Jesse is always there for him on nights like that, he'll be right here, by her side, to soothe away her memories of Zoom.
He smiles softly and tilts his head to catch her lips against his own.
