an offer to get hot chocolate from the local branch of jitters was an easy excuse to see laurel; the question he should have been asking is why did there need to be an excuse? they had grown up together; and from the beginnings of his teenage years, she took up residence in his heart, despite the way certain actions may have seemed. things were simpler then; and only now, after the horrors of lian yu and what followed, did he realize just how much they had been taken for granted. time is the one thing impossible to get back; but...it didn’t extinguish all hope within him.
